Two children removed from filthy residence Two children were removed Jan. 14 from a garbage-filled residence discovered by Fond du Lac firefighters. Firefighters were going door-to-door in an apartment building at 80 Prairie Road while responding to a fire alarm when they noticed a foul odor coming from one of the apartments.

Police were asked to respond, and an officer noted a "very foul odor" as he walked up the stairs to one of the apartments, according to a Fond du Lac Police Department report. Inside the apartment, officers found floors that were covered with garbage and clothes, decaying food, a refrigerator black inside and out from filth, and dirty diapers, according to the report. Two children in the home, ages 3 and 11, were removed by county Social Services and placed with a foster home. The children's mother was told she has until Jan. 17 to clean the apartment.

Tools, toy collection missing from apartment Someone broke into an apartment on Whispering Springs Drive between Jan. 10 and 12 and took electronics, tools and a toy collection, valued at more than $17,500. The apartment is rented by Norah Bartash and Brian Mauss. The toy collection includes John Deere tractor models and toy cars. A toolbox containing tools is valued at $10,000.

Officers checked with the tenants of an upstairs apartment, but no one recalled hearing or seeing anything suspicious in the downstairs apartment during the weekend. Finke, 92, formerly of the Madison area and a resident of the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home for the past years, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at the home.

She was born June 29, 1910, in the Town of Vermont, Dane County, the daughter of Ole A. and Ida M. Erickson Bakken. On Feb. 23, 1931, she married Emery W.

Finke at Vermont Lutheran Church, Town of Vermont. He preceded her in death on Sept. 14, 1966. Emma worked for the Marshall School District and later worked as a clerk for the State of Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles. She retired in 1975.

She was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sun Prairie. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and the Colonial 1 Club where she served on many boards and committees. She was an avid traveler, traveling throughout the United States, Canada and Hawaii. She enjoyed ceramics. Survivors i include four children, Carol (John) Zeller of Fond du Lac, Lyle (Cynthia) Finke of De Pere, Douglas Finke of Escondido, and Dale (Janine) Finke of Madison; 13 grandchildren; and 30 greatgrandchildren; four sisters-inlaw, Adeline Sutcliffe of Madison, Inez Schanel of McFarland, OBITUARIES Obituaries published online at www.fdireporter.com Emma L.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, Orlando Bakken; and one sister, Alice Heisig.

Services: Funeral services will be held a at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Sun Prairie, with the Rev. David J. Berggren officiating.

17, 2003 Orville G. Freiberg Orville G. Freiberg, 91, of 103 East Ann Kaukauna, was called to his Lord, unexpectedly, Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 15, 2003. He was born Oct.

29, 1911, to the late Charles and Rosa (Hensel) Freiberg, in Fond du Lac, and had been an Appleton area resident for over 40 years. Orv had been employed by Standard Oil Company for 34 years, retiring in 1973, as an auditor. He loved to garden, play cards, yard work, camping and traveling. Orv had been a very active member of Faith Lutheran Church, Appleton, Grace Lutheran Church, Appleton, and presently of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Kaukauna.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel M. (Zabel) Freiberg, to whom he had been married for 67 years; a son, Micheal A. Freiberg, Menasha; a daughter, Linda S. Wunderlich, Kaukauna; two grandsons, Timothy (Cheryl) Wunderlich, Appleton, and Daniel Wunderlich, Menasha; a great-grandson, Timothy Wunderlich and a brother, Arthur Freiberg, Appleton. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred and Carl Freiberg; and a daughter-in-law, Gerry Freiberg.

Services: Private family services were held, with the Rev. Ronald Raddatz officiating. Burial will be in Estabrooks Cemetery, Fond du Lac. A memorial fund has been established for St. Paul Home, Kaukauna.

Herb was born May 22, 1942, the son of Karl and Corinne (Goeser) Vils. His mother, Corinne Vils of Mazomanie; three sons, Kelly (Shelly), Poynette, Keith, Portage, and Cory, Arizona; and four grandchildren, Samantha, Kris, Rozry and Roxy; survive him. He is also survived by three brothers, Bill (Vonnie), Sauk City, Mark (Yvonne), Mazomanie and Tom (Amy), Mazomanie; and four sisters, Irma (Claude) Radermacher, Edgerton, Joan (Joe) Biekelhaupt, Oshkosh, Jenny (Mike) Fehrenbach, Sauk City, and Monica (Jessie) Brawner, Conroe, Texas. He has many nieces and nephews, Kesha, Teresa, Tracie, Julie, Jenny, Craig, Justin, Anton, Jake, Jessica, Travis, Jesse, Shannon, Emily, Georgia, Lucas, Grace, Samuel, Allie, Zach and Karli. He was preceded in death by his father, Karl Vils; two brothers, Robert and David; and nephews, Jamie Morgan and Michael Vils; and niece, Jaclyn Hawley.

O'Grady, 96, of 1112 South 13th Manitowoc, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc. Cora was born Feb. 5, 1906, at Waubeka, daughter of the late August and Louise Hoelz Hetzel.

She grew up in Waubeka, and graduated from Plymouth High School, Plymouth Wis. Cora married Lawrence F. O'Grady, on July 13, 1935, at Plymouth, Wis. He preceded her in death on Oct. 19, 1945.

Cora started her working career as a secretary for a Plymouth cheese company. She later operated O'Grady Supermarket at Valders, for many years until moving to Manitowoc in 1959. She operated a grocery store in Manitowoc on the corner of South 13th and Columbus Street until 1967. She also worked at Shady Lane for several years. She was a member of St.

John's United Church of Christ, Ladies Guild and the Friendship Club of the church, Manitowoc Senior Center and the local chapter of the AARP of which she was a past secretary. Cora was a creative and talented person. She always remembered other people. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Cal Wester, Manitowoe, Janet and Frank Kohls, Sheboyand Larry Fricke, Manitowoe; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Linda O'Grady, Romeoville, and Thomas and Vicki O'Grady, Fond du Lac, daughter-inlaw, Mary O'Grady, Chelmsford, 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; one son, John; three sisters; and one brother. Services: Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at St. John's United Church of Christ, 1501 Marshall Manitowoc. The Rev.

Weinheimer Carolyn L. Weinheimer, 86, of Waupun, died Thursday morning, Jan. 16, 2003, at Waupun Memorial Hospital in Waupun. Carolyn was born on July 18, 1916, in Mt. Morris, the daughter of Louis and Bertha Thorstad Christensen.

Following her graduation from Wautoma High School in 1936, Carolyn received her teaching degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. On June 17, 1945, she married Marvin Weinheimer in Beaver Dam. Carolyn and Marvin established and owned Weinheimer Floral of Waupun. Carolyn had a special love of orchids. Later in life, Carolyn went back to school to further her education in the field of special education.

She taught special education in the Waupun area until her retirement. She had a very special gift for helping others. During her retirement, she enjoyed investigating her family tree and Norwegian heritage. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waupun and its women's groups. Carolyn had many hobbies but especially enjoyed reading and crafts.

Carolyn is survived by a son, John Weinheimer of Madison and his special friend Jill Voeltz; two daughters, Mary (Gary) Brugman of Brookfield and Lou Ann (Robert) Danner of Fond du Lac; and five grandchildren, Rob (Rachel) Brugman, Mike Brugman, Jake Luehring, Julie Danner and Daniel Danner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, on May 5, 2002. Services: Funeral services for Carolyn Weinheimer will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at the WernerHarmsen Funeral Home in Waupun, with the Rev.
